This document defines the Melles unboxing experience — every element of how a Melles order arrives. To be shared with packaging and print suppliers as a definitive reference.
Melles packaging should feel like it was put together by someone who actually cares — not a warehouse fulfilment line. Warm, considered, unhurried. When a customer opens their order they should feel like a mate sent it, not a brand. Every touch point — the box, the tissue, the card — carries that same intention.
A two-piece rigid box — separate base and lid — in natural kraft board. The exterior is uncoated for a tactile, warm feel. The Melles M-mark is applied to the lid center as a blind deboss or stamp impression, with no other printed text on the exterior. Understated by intention.

The garment is wrapped in a single sheet of natural cream tissue before being placed in the box. The tissue creates a sense of care and anticipation when the lid is lifted. Optionally printed with a faint repeat of the M-mark in the brand's warm tone.

A loose card sits on top of the wrapped garment. The tone is personal — like a note from a friend, not a fulfilment slip. The message is short, warm and specific to the garment type. No order numbers, no legal copy. Just the brand's voice.

The hangtag is attached to the garment before packaging. It carries the M-mark, the Melles wordmark, and essential product information on the reverse. The stock matches the insert card for visual consistency throughout the box.

As an alternative or addition to debossed box printing, the M-mark can be applied by hand using a custom rubber stamp in charcoal ink. This gives a deliberately handcrafted quality to the packaging — intentionally imperfect, warm, human. Used on the insert card, inner box base, and tissue where applicable.

Write like a mate who actually likes what they made. Warm, short, specific to the product. No superlatives. No "we're so excited to share". No sign-off that sounds like customer service. It should feel like a note someone wrote before sealing the box.

All packaging components should be made from recycled or FSC-certified materials where possible. No plastic inner trays. No foam inserts. No synthetic ribbons. The entire unboxing experience should be recyclable or compostable by the customer with no separation of materials needed.
No gloss laminate, UV spot, or high-sheen finishes on any packaging component. All surfaces should be matte, uncoated or lightly textured. The tactile quality of the material is part of the brand experience — do not override it with coating.
The sand kraft colour (#D4C4A8) is a natural stock match, not a printed colour. Charcoal ink (#171714) should be matched to Pantone 419 C for all print applications. Request proofs for every new run — colour consistency across box, card and hangtag matters.
The rubber stamp application will vary slightly from order to order. This is intentional. Do not attempt to mechanise or standardise the stamp placement. Minor variation in impression weight and alignment is part of the brand's handcrafted character. If moving to larger scale, discuss alternatives with Melles before changing method.

Physical proofs required before any production run. Digital PDF sign-off is not sufficient for stock, print or finish approval. One full assembled sample box (with tissue, card and hangtag) must be submitted for sign-off before bulk production commences. No exceptions.
